Communion on the Road
Over the last several years, God has been leading us at The Finding into greater depths of communion. We’ve learned that communion was never intended to be a five-minute segment within a larger gathering that we call a service. It was never intended to be merely a memorial—a looking back at something that is gone. Rather, communion is a victory in life.
In Numbers 17, Aaron’s rod was placed in the Tent of Testimony, and it budded, blossomed, and produced almonds. Out of dead wood came forth life in the presence of the testimony. It points us to Jesus: when His testimony is applied to dead things, eternal life springs forth. This is where we find the victory of the Cross.
Jesus instructs us to receive His body and blood in remembrance of Him. But we know this is not because we are given permission to forget about Him for the rest of the month. Rather, in remembrance, we proclaim His victory over every dead thing in our lives.
Remembrance isn’t merely intended to keep us from forgetting Jesus; it is intended to declare to hell the victory of the Cross. For this reason, Revelation 19:10 tells us that “the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
We believe that as we worship, remember His testimony, and receive the elements, we will experience the victory of the Cross—and see His life brought forth even in places that have been dead.
